TWO LARGE IMARI CHARGERS. Early 20th century. The first with a central rondel decorated with five-toed dragon in burnt umber within polychrome cloud bands surrounded by a band of four indigo rondels surmounted by moths alternating with an additional four rondels decorated with fanciful phoenix all within dense polychrome flowerheads. The exterior with fish beneath band of scales in underglaze-blue. The center of the base with an out of period Ming Dynasty six-digit mark, possibly a Japanese interpretation. The second smaller charger decorated overall with six reserves of floral sprays and floral landscapes set within diaperwork and indigo gilt decorated panels centering a rondel with deep orange and cobalt blue floral spray. The exterior decorated with “Precious Things” in underglaze-blue. SIZE: 1) 18-1/2″ dia. 2) 15-3/4″ dia. PROVENANCE: From the private collection of Dorothy-Lee Jones. CONDITION: 1) Very good. 2) Very good with minor roughness to rim edges. Colors remain vibrant. 9-23218 (800-1,000)
