MARLIN MODEL 1889 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 68142. Standard grade rifle with 24” oct bbl, modified Rocky Mountain front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight filed flat on top. Top tang has two open holes where a tang sight was removed. Mounted with uncheckered, nicely figured, slab sawed American walnut with straight stock & crescent steel buttplate. CONDITION: Good. Metal is mostly a dark brown patina with blue in very sheltered areas with some fine pitting around muzzle and light rust on flats. Stock has a crack on right side of wrist and is missing a sliver on left side, otherwise wood is sound with usual handling & use marks and retains about 75% orig varnish, heat crazed on buttstock. Receiver screws are battered. There are scattered spots of paint spatters over metal & wood. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore with a spot or two of rust. 4-30056 JR28 (1,500-2,500)
