IMPORTANT ROCOCO REVIVAL ROSEWOOD HALF-TESTER BED, ATTRIBUTED TO BELTER. Mid-19th century. The canopy with serpentine front and quarter-round bobbin molding surmounted by large turned finials, supported by S-scrolled carved brackets joined to massive cylindrical headposts with ring turnings centering a figured triple-panel headboard, the serpentine arched crest rail with C-scrolled moldings centering a carved fruit spray, the conforming crest S- and C-scrolled, carved with fruit and leafy vinery, the side rails similarly scrolled and carved, joined to the curved footboard applied with scrolling leaves, cartouches, and shaped moldings, the frontal feet curved with shaped returns. SIZE: Bed overall: 9’2″ h. x 91-1/2″ l. x 69″ w. Canopy top: approx. 69″ x 45″. Bed interior: approx. 82″ x 61″. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection. CONDITION: Very fine overall. Surfaces professionally cleaned and repolished. Old split in top of headboard professionally repaired. Veneer restoration to front of canopy.
