CHARLES PARSONS KNIGHT (United Kingdom, 1829-1897) “TRAPPER ON HORSEBACK LOCATED NEAR PIERRE SO. DAKOTA”. Oil on canvas western scene shows a man on horseback stopping at the top of a low hill signaling to another man on horseback to stop because they have just come upon an Indian encampment with six teepees and a small group of Native Americans beside. The scene overlooks hills beyond under white cloud & blue sky. Signed lower right. Also signed on reverse “C.P. Knight Augt. 1893″ and having a hand written period title. Housed in what appears to be its original gesso decorated gilt frame. SIZE: 7-1/2″ x 13-1/2”. PROVENANCE: From a private Portland, Maine area home. CONDITION: Very good. 9-24741 (2,000-3,000)
