SHARPS MODEL 1853 SPORTING RIFLE. Cal. 52. SN 12282. Fine percussion sporting rifle with 24” medium weight oct bbl, small dovetail front sight with an early Sharps ladder rear sight missing the slide. It has Sharps bbl markings with Hartford address and usual markings on the lockplate. It has a mid-range tang sight with 4” blade and uncheckered wood with pewter forend cap. The forearm secured with two screws and straight stock with carbine style buttplate. It has double set triggers. CONDITION: All the metal retains a light gray/brown patina with scattered very fine spots of surface rust. Wood is sound with a small fill on the forearm bbl channel, otherwise retains most of an old refinish. Mechanics are fine and it has a strong bright bore with scattered very fine pitting. 4-51593 JR816 (4,000-5,000)
