AN EARLY BRASS AND MARBLE BALANCE TYPE GOLD SCALE. Medium size scale without case, standing 17” high including the 5/8” thick white marble base. It is made from solid brass with a flat 5-1/8” long hour glass shaped base that has recesses for eight brass weights, two of which are missing. There is a stamped entertwined “AB” on either side of the upright stanchion with an owl finial in the center. The balance arm is 8-3/4” wide with a 6” brass pan suspended from three chains on each end. CONDITION: Probably of European or Middle East origin with some casting flaws on the stand and balance arm but it does have some good age. The marble base has a repaired crack and the brass is spotted and stained in need of good cleaning. 4-48927 JR723 (200-400)
