FOLK ART DIORAMA OF THE “OCEANIC”. Circa 1900. The 4-masted steamship sailing vessel rendered with fabric sails, mounted on a waveswept ocean, the painted backdrop a cloudy sky. In original mahogany shadowbox frame. The Oceanic, built in 1870, was the pioneer vessel of the WHITE STAR line: 3,808 gross tons, 420 ft. in length, 42 ft. in beam, registered for 166 1st class passengers and 1000 3rd class passengers. She sank in 1896. SIZE: 17″ h. x 36″ l. x 5″ d. CONDITION: Good overall, the model intact, the painted interior of the diorama with dryness. 9-95598 (800-1,200)
