*RARE J.P. SAUER & SOHN MODEL 30 LUFTWAFFE DRILLING IN ORIGINAL CASE WITH ACCESSORIES. SN 337418. Cal. 12X12/9.3X74R. Extraordinary near complete orig set consisting of a Sauer drilling with 25-5/8″ bbl cluster, flat matted tapered rib with brass bead caterpillar front sight & articulated rear sight. Right side of shotgun bbl has a large Luftwaffe eagle which is also found in larger proportion on right side of buttstock. Mounted with very nicely figured, tiger-striped walnut with checkered splinter forearm & pistol grip stock with Sauer logo hard rubber buttplate. It has a scalloped boxlock receiver with side clips & cocked indicators with sliding thumb latch on top tang to transfer front trigger function to rifle bbl which also articulates rear sight into a standing position. Receiver has Greener crossbolt & a Greener side thumb safety & is lightly engraved in foliate arabesque patterns with maker’s name on each side and intertwined initials “SUS”, Sauer logo on bottom. Trigger guard, triggers, grip cap & sling swivels are all case hardened. Bottom of bbls have various German & Sauer proofs with the eagle “N” & a drooped wing eagle “2” along with date “11 44” indicating production in Nov. 1944. Chambers for shotgun bbls are marked as “65” mm (2-5/8″). Accompanied by its orig aluminum aircraft case designed to fit in cockpit of ME-109 fighter planes & other aircraft. Exterior of case is painted in Luftwaffe gray/green & stenciled on lid “Drilling M 30 / mit Munition u. Zubehor / ce”(Drilling Model 30 / with ammunition & accessories). Inside left end of lid is the list of contents & the lid has a horsehair weather seal along with horsehair padding for shotgun. Interior is compartmented for disassembled Drilling with a compartment in right rear for ammunition which contains ten orig Brenneke slugs, five orig Rottweil #4 shot shells & about eight orig FN 9.3X74R cartridges. Central rear part of compartment contains the orig black cardboard box containing the orig brass & wood cleaning rod with brushes & mops with a wad of tow. Left rear compartment contains orig sling, two orig J.P. Sauer metal seals & a red composition match case containing 25 orig fire starters. Final item accompanying is the orig instruction & maintenance manual dated June 1941. PROVENANCE: Doug Smith Collection. CONDITION: Extraordinarily fine, appears to be new & unfired. Overall the drilling retains virtually all of its beautiful orig factory finish with only very minor handling & storage surface nicks on wood. Bbls retain all of their high polish orig blue, and receiver brilliant case colors. Case retains about 93-95% strong orig gray/green paint with a soft flexible leather handle that is slightly deteriorated on one end. Interior is crisp & clean with sling & match safe equally new. Cleaning rod box & contents are new with damage to box lid. Manual is also new. Ammunition is fine. Altogether a very rare set in extraordinarily rare condition. 4-36167 JR249 (30,000-40,000)
