*SCARCE COLT BANKER’S SPECIAL DA REVOLVER WITH POLICE MARKINGS & ORIGINAL BOX. SN 333458. Cal. 38 Colt. Blue finish with 2″ bbl, slightly altered integral half moon front sight with grooved top strap rear sight. Bbl has usual markings with rampant Colt on sideplate and butt strap stamped “P.P.D. No. 43″ and is mounted with 2-pc smooth ivory grips. Accompanied by its orig hinged lid dark maroon cardboard box numbered to this revolver with black & white end label, identifying it as a Colt Police Positive revolver with 2” bbl, wood grips, blue finish and in cal. 38. Bottom center of label is marked “SPECIAL”. The end of the top has a black on white label marked “DETECTIVE SPECIAL”. Also accompanied by an empty outer sleeve for a box of Remington/UMC 38 Short Colt cartridges. Additionally accompanied by a Colt factory letter identifying this revolver in cal. 38 Colt with 2″ bbl, blue finish, type of stocks not listed, factory inscribed “P.P.D. NO.43”, shipped to City of Plainfield, NJ, c/o J.J. Flynn, Chief of Police on Sept. 30, 1929 to Factory Order #17294/4 in a shipment of four same type revolvers. CONDITION: Revolver is extremely fine. Overall retains 97-98% strong orig factory blue with only slight muzzle edge wear and a small spot on cylinder with another tiny wear spot on sideplate. Grips are extremely fine, retaining most of their orig polish with a light ivory patina. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. Box is fair to good with open seams and some taped repairs with a compression break in bottom. Cartridge box sleeve is poor. 4-40074 JR41 (3,000-5,000)
