*RARE MODEL K98 MAUSER SHARPSHOOTER’S RIFLE WITH Zf 41/1 SCOPE. SN 72852L. Cal. 8X57 mm. Scarce sharpshooter’s rifle on a byf/44 action with 24″ tapered rnd bbl, barleycorn front sight with hood & 2,000 meter rear sight. Sight base is specially built with a rail on left side that is mounted with a “duv” code code base containing a “cag” Zf 41/1 sharpshooter’s scope, serial number “2129”. Rear edge of base is marked “K98k-Zf.41.”. Rifle is mounted in an orig laminated 1-pc stock with short handguard, stamped trigger guard/floorplate with stamped bbl bands, without bayonet lug or cleaning rod. It has standard sheet metal buttplate with a hole for bolt dismounting and accompanied by an orig diamond pattern embossed leather sling, the buckle stamped “D&C”. Also accompanied by an orig desert tan painted scope can with “jvb” code & eagle “WaA542” Waffenampt on lid. Additionally accompanied by a “cxn” code scope adjusting tool with manufacturer’s code & serial number “89810/V-2X” on left side. This is a very scarce & complete set as would have been issued toward end of WWII. PROVENANCE: Doug Smith Collection. CONDITION: Extremely fine, all numbered parts are matching. Metal retains virtually all of its orig rough wartime finish with slight wear on bolt body & some minor spotting on trigger guard & floorplate. Stock has a hairline in laminate on right side of butt, otherwise wood is sound with minor handling & storage marks & retains most of its orig finish. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. Scope & mount are equally crisp, retaining virtually all of their orig factory finish, crisp optics. Scope adjusting tool is equally new with fine optics. Can retains about 95% orig desert tan paint with horsehair lining. Canvas belt loop has a rust stain.
