WESTLEY RICHARDS NEW MODEL TAKEDOWN SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. Cal 303 British. SN 21216. Beautiful single shot hunting rifle with 27-9/16” light tapered rnd bbl with pedestal front sight and special long range, five-leaf platinum line express sight. Four folding leaves are graduated to 400 meters with the fifth leaf, being a ladder type sight, is graduated to 1400 meters. It has the flat side receiver marked “Patent detachable bbl no. 9711”. The left side of the bbl is marked “For W. R 303 special cartridge” with “Nitro Proof” and small British proofs. The right side of the chamber area is marked “Patent detachable bbl 57”. The top of the bbl is marked with the company name and London. The left side of the receiver is marked with the company name, London. The top tang has a thumb safety marked “Patent 103” with “Safe” in gold. The wood is beautifully grained French walnut with checkered, tapered horn-tip forearm with side panels and a pistol grip stock with tear drop side panels and cheek piece, 14-5/8” over a smooth steel buttplate with trap. The bbl has a sling eye on the bottom and a corresponding eye on the buttstock. CONDITION: Extremely fine with a professionally restored finish to the metal. Wood appears to be modern replacement with a hairline at the back of the top tang and retains virtually all its custom finish with a couple of minor bruises on the side panels.
