*PAIR OF PROTOTYPE COLT COMBAT COMMANDER SEMI-AUTO PISTOLS. SN X25089 & X25090. Cal. 9 mm. Very rare pair of pistols with consecutive experimental SNs, identical in all respects with steel frames & slides. They have blue finish with 4-1/4″ bbls, fixed sights and mounted with gold Colt medallion Pachmayr wrap around rubber grips. Left side of slides are marked “COMBAT / COMMANDER COLT 9MM LUGER / CALIBER” with the rampant Colt. Right sides of slides are marked “COLT’S COMBAT COMMANDER MODEL”. Right sides of frames above grips have the Colt name & address with the SNs just back of the slide lock pins. They are fitted with rnd spur hammers with holes in the spurs, ambidextrous safeties and serrated, arched main spring housings. One is fitted with a beavertail grip safety and the other a standard grip safety and each is accompanied by one orig Colt 9mm Luger magazine with marked base. They are also accompanied by their orig Styrofoam lined, 1-pc, wood grain cardboard boxes that have hand lettered end flaps with identifying SNs and contain their orig owner’s manuals and other Colt supplied pamphlets & brochures along with the octagonal shaped orange tags referenced in the accompanying letters. They are additionally accompanied by a Colt factory letter for each pistol with identical information which states the caliber is 9mm with 4-1/4″ bbl “finished in-the-white with caliber marking at breech”. Finish is listed as matte blue with grips, as found, and under special features lists all the other markings, as found, plus, “Also included is an orange warning tag, which is attached to the trigger guard.” Accessories are listed as “wood grain box with manual, brochures & identifying end label.”. Shipped to Greg Martin Auctions, San Francisco, CA on Oct. 16, 2008 and under remarks section “Subject pistol was an experimental prototype kept by the factory.”. A rare opportunity to purchase a pair of documented factory prototype experimental pistols. CONDITION: Crisp & new, appear to be unfired. Overall retain all of their orig, strong, dark, factory blue with matte top & bottom surfaces, sides are polished bright. Grips are equally new.
