29″, (74 CM), JULES STEINER BÉBÉ. Beautiful Steiner circa 1890 in impressive grand size, the head is incised “A. 19. PARIS” and is stamped in red “LE PARISIEN Bte. S.G.D.G. A 19”. She has lovely hazel paperweight eyes, well-painted tiny eyelashes, even feathered eyebrows, and closed mouth with pouty upper lip. A special note is the well-defined modeling of ears and ear canals. She is on her original fully-jointed Steiner body, with the so called big “banana hands”. She is costumed in a period and elaborate pleated white silk dress with fine pink ribbon inserts, which is covered by a pink silk and lace overlay cape and wearing an antique white silk and elaborate and fancy lace bonnet with gold silk ribbon trim. The wig is honey blonde human hair in long curls with the original Steiner cardboard pate, with newer black leather children’s shoes. CONDITION: Head has fine quality bisque and is free of damage; minor firing separation under right nostril, body retains most of the original finish with paint retouch on the lower part of left upper leg, and paint wear at the upper part of the same leg. 1-7316 RS (3,500-5,500)
