*RARE FACTORY ETCH ENGRAVED WALTHER MODEL 9 SEMI-AUTO PISTOL. SN 596480. Cal. 25 ACP. Blue finish with 2″ bbl, fixed sights and checkered black hard rubber grips with cloissonne medallions on each side. Slide is acid etch engraved on each side in foliate arabesque patterns around the slide markings. Slide & frame have crown “N” proofs. Accompanied by one orig Walther banner magazine. Also accompanied by a rare orig Walther banner marked soft leather flap holster with tab & loop and a belt loop on the back. Also accompanied by a small narrative from consignor who states that this pistol was carried under the tunic of a British soldier in Egypt. He apparently became infatuated with Mary Louise Ellsworth, wife of the famous American Antarctic explorer, Lincoln Ellsworth when she was in Cairo with her mother on an “around the world” trip for the teenage daughter of a Pennsylvania steel magnate. Mrs. Ellsworth kept the pistol until her death when she was in her 80’s. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Overall retains 97-98% strong orig factory blue with only slight muzzle edge wear on slide and a light safety line. Grips are crisp with only faint diamond point wear. Holster shows heavy handling and probably has been treated with Neatsfoot oil. Walther banner logo on flap is still legible. 4-39297 JR270 (750-1,500)
