ITALIAN HIGH-CRESTED CABESSET. Steel helmet, ca. 1580, approx. 8” high, elliptical shaped, 10” by 8-1/2” with flared edge having brass rosettes at the base. What is apparently the front has a plume socket made of iron secured with two brass rivets. It has scale cheek pieces attached to leather which are sewn to coarse woven light brown cotton which has more modern red and green coarse lining. Only traces of the rest of the lining remain. There is a repair to the edge near the front. CONDITION: Cleared to bright metal with obvious repairs to the cheek piece linings. 4-48942 JR729 (500-1,500)
