*VERY RARE DELUXE WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 2-BARREL SET. Cal. 45-90 & 33 WCF. SN 130409. One of the unusual rarities in Winchesters is a rifle returned to the factory for conversion to another caliber. This rifle started out life in 1904 as a standard grade rnd bbl rifle in 45-90 with full magazine. It was returned to the factory in 1906 and converted to a 33 caliber rnd bbl lightweight rifle with half magazine, deluxe fancy checkered stock & shotgun rubber buttplate with oil finish. The orig bbl was returned to the owner along with matching deluxe forearm and has been re-mounted on this rifle. Current configuration is a 26” rnd bbl, full magazine with ivory bead Beaches combination front sight, Lyman 6A 2-leaf folding rear sight and a Lyman loop tang sight. Mounted with very nicely figured, flame grain, H-style checkered, American walnut with straight stock and a Winchester, solid red, rubber recoil pad. Left side of lower tang is stamped with assembly number “42” and “XX”. Assembly number also appears in top tang channel of buttstock. Accompanied by its 24” rapid taper, rnd bbl with Lyman ivory bead, pedestal front sight and flat top rear sight. It also has an H-style checkered, highly figured forearm. It is additionally accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter fully identifying this rifle as described and as found. In addition it has copies of the museum hand written record. CONDITION: Extremely fine. The 45-90 bbl & full magazine retain virtually all of a fine satin finish. The 33 bbl & magazine tube retain about all of its orig factory blue with slight muzzle edge wear. Both forend caps retain about all of their bright factory blue with a fingernail sized spot of flaking on the cap on the 33 bbl. Receiver retains 96-97% glossy factory blue with visible polish lines in the proper place with a couple of small spots of flaking and a few tiny nicks & scratches. Lever & hammer retain about all of their brilliant factory case colors, moderately faded on outside edge of lever. Wood is sound with minor handling & storage marks with the 33 forearm having a tiny bruise and the 45-90 forearm a small scrape, otherwise all three pieces retain virtually all of their fine factory finish. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bores on both bbls. 4-30629 JR325 (30,000-50,000)
