DENT PUBLIC SERVICE BUS. Without a doubt one of the finest cast iron automotive buses ever produced by any toy company during the golden era of automotive toys! Two versions of this particular bus were made, one having an extended roof with clerestory and the other having a squatter shallower roof. This bus has the extended roof. Often painted in a variety of colors, all the buses had an enameled black roof, nickel plated wheels (dual rear wheels), and a spare at the back end of the bus. The Newhards were the original partners with the Dent family (the Dents ran the foundry and the Newhards were the sales people). During the mid-20th century the Dent family sold their share of the business to the Newhards who continued to run the business until the 1970s. At the Newhard house were many original toys and memorabilia from the Dent Foundry and in September 1992 the Henry Newhard Estate was sold by Pennypackers Auction Centre. This bus was one of many items sold that day and has since been in a private collection until recently. This toy still retains its original factory sample tag and is in remarkable untouched condition. SIZE: 13 1/2″ l. CONDITION: Overall very fine to near mint with some chipping to black roof. 1-9449 (4,500-6,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2009 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price. The prices noted here after the auction are considered unofficial and do not become official until after the 46th day. |
