FINE ROCOCO LAMINATED ROSEWOOD TRIPLE-BACK SETTEE. Third quarter 19th century. In the manner of J. & J. Meeks; each crest in the form of a shell-and-foliate-carved crest, joined to scrolling leaftips continuing to laminated shoulders with scrolling pierced fretwork. The conforming padded seatbacks centering a shaped padded ‘mirror’ back within a pierced scrolling framework, the padded arms continuing to scrolled volute grips above inturned molded supports centering the padded seat, with serpentine front rail carved with leaftip cartouches, raised on frontal cabriole legs with acanthus-carved knees ending in snail feet with carved volutes, raised on casters. SIZE: 46″ overall h. x 89-1/2″ overall l. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection. CONDITION: Sofa retains old cleaned surfaces with some minor professional restoration to cresting, small losses to pierced fretwork.
