PAINTING OF WWI GERMAN FLYERS. Oil on canvas by Hy S. Watson, 26-3/4” x 18-1/2” exposed image, primarily gray tones with a decorative silver and gray frame. The subject matter is primarily a German biplane with a pilot in the front cockpit holding a pistol in one hand and his flight helmet in the other with two German officers in the foreground, one aiming a pistol at the other. In the background is a crashed and burning airplane with a British biplane flying overhead. One can only speculate why the two officers are pointing their pistols at the third. Perhaps he was a spy. CONDITION: Fine, the images are sharp, and the colors and confirmation true to life. The frame has slightly separated corners and a chip or two, otherwise it is fine. 4-47871 JR769 (800-1,200)
