*EXTREMELY RARE EXPERIMENTAL OR PROTOTYPE REMINGTON/UMC 1911 SEMI-AUTO PISTOL WITH NAZI PROOF. SN EX6. Cal. 45 ACP. Usual Remington/UMC brushed finish with “E.E.C.” inspector initials on left side of frame above magazine release & “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” on left front side of frame. Left side of slide has usual Remington/UMC markings. Right side of slide is marked “MODEL OF 1911 / U.S. ARMY CALIBER .45”. Right side of frame, just in front of grip is stamped with a large “E” and a horizontal “X” with number “6” and just forward of that is a totally unexplained & unusual Nazi eagle “N” proof mark. It appears that this pistol was probably picked up on a battlefield during WWI and found its way into Nazi hands during the buildup for WWII and was used as an experimental test piece by the Nazis. It has an orig 1911 bbl with “PH” proofs perpendicular to axis of bore with a partial eagle “N” proof on right top side. Mounted with diamond checkered walnut grips & comes with an all blue magazine. Accompanied by an orig Boyt “1917” dated holster with “US” in an oval on flap. The Boyt marking, date & inspector initials are, unusually, on front of holster above the stud. PROVENANCE: Doug Smith Collection. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Overall retains about 95% strong orig factory brushed blue finish with some light holster wear at front end of slide & on sharp edges. Area of serial number is cleaned to bright metal. Grips show moderate wear, otherwise are sound with a few scattered chipped diamonds. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore.
