GROUP OF ENGLISH AND GERMAN TABLE WARES. 19th century. This lot includes a footed polychrome transfer-decorated compote with an incised mark “ZELL” (Germany, Third quarter 19th C.), together with a transfer-decorated teacup and saucer decorated with a classical scene incorporating a Union Jack. A Jackfield-type covered sugar bowl and undertray with pineapple knop, a similar coffee can and earthenware plate densely decorated overall with Oriental garden scenes with brown ground. The last, an unmarked teapot polychrome paint-decorated with romantic Greek archers and warriors with helmet and shield. SIZE: 4-1/2″ h x 8-3/4″ dia.(compote); 6-1/2″ h (last teapot). PROVENANCE: From the private collection of Dorothy-Lee Jones. CONDITION: Generally very good. The can with tight vertical hairline at rim by handle. 9-23321 (500-700)
