*SCARCE MAUSER MODEL 96 BROOMHANDLE CARBINE. SN 015. Cal. 30 Mauser. Unusual Broomhandle with 16″ tapered rnd bbl, integral tall barleycorn front sight and 1000 meter adjustable rear sight. Slide and frame are typical Broomhandle Mauser with Mauser banner on left rear side of frame. Bottom rear of frame has a built in lug which corresponds with the dovetail in the lug attached to the walnut buttstock. Buttstock has a round knob pistol grip and is shaped like the more common holster stocks with serrated butt and a sling swivel in the bottom. Front of the receiver has a long applied tang which contains an L shaped round forearm. Left side of frame, just above the lug cut, is stamped “015”. Inside the frame, above the lug cut, is stamped “004”, probably an assembly number, which is also found on the bottom front of the slide. Top front of the frame, just forward of the mag well, is stamped “4238”, which number is also found on the trigger/sear block. No other internal parts are marked. Left side of stock attaching bracket is marked “015” and inside the slot of the attaching bracket has the assembly number “004”. The firing pin keeper, on the right side of slide, is marked “224”. No other markings were observed at this point. Accompanied by a homemade wood case, red velvet lined in the lid and compartmented in the bottom for the barreled slide and stocked receiver. Front compartments contain 1 box of 20 rnds of original DWM ammunition in 2 strippers and an empty box for Winchester ammunition with orange label and green ends. Also accompanying are 2 full stripper clips of mixed ammunition and 4 empty stripper clips. CONDITION: Fine, numbers as reported above. Steel parts on the pistol all retain a fine professionally restored finish. Stock and forearm are sound and retain a fine oil finish. Mechanics are fine. Bright shiny bore.
