EDWIN WESSON HEAVY TARGET RIFLE. Cal 46. Attributed to Edwin Wesson, this rifle has a 29-3/16” heavy oct to rnd bbl with globe front sight and a recently added short Vernier sight on the top of the receiver. It has its original brass bullet starter. The receiver is the typical flat-sided Wesson design with long reinforcing sideplates and top and bottom tangs. The stock is very nicely grained American walnut with a shallow cheek piece and straight grip. It has nickeled iron, fancy trigger guard, crescent buttplate and toeplate. The toeplate has a lighting bolt style finial. The right side of the stock is inlaid with a simple nickeled iron, 2-pc patchbox. The top tang has several plugged holes. The bottom of the muzzle a plugged hole and three recesses apparently from an old rest. CONDITION: Iron retains a mottled medium brown patina with light surface rust and some wrench marks on the bbl. Trigger guard, buttplate, toeplate, and patchbox retain most of an old re-nickel. Stock is sound and retains most of an old refinish. Bore is bright and shiny with very minor light pitting. 4-50333 JR178 (1,000-2,000)
