SCARCE INDIAN POLICE REMINGTON FRONTIER MODEL KEENE RIFLE WITH ORIGINAL SILVER BADGE. Cal. 45-70. SN 123. Standard model with 24-1/4″ rnd bbl, full magazine, orig front sight and reverse mounted ladder rear sight. It is mounted in a 1-pc walnut stock with straight grip & musket style buttplate with sling swivels. The left wrist has a clear “HN” (Henry Nettleton) cartouche and there are Nettleton and other inspector initials on the bbl & receiver. The receiver ring also has a small stamped arrow (the symbol of the Indian Scouts and Indian Police) in front of the gas port and the left side of the receiver is hand stamped “U.S.I.D. 123”. This is one of the 600-800 pieces produced for the Indian Police in the period 1880-81. It is accompanied by an orig silver shield shaped “U.S. INDIAN POLICE” badge with orig safety pin type clasp on the back. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl & magazine tube retain 75-80% thin orig blue with a couple of small spots of cleaned rust. Receiver retains about 65-70% thinning orig blue, strong on the sides. Stock is sound with a large gouge and scratches on the left side and other handling & use marks and retains a fine hand rubbed patina. Mechanics are fine, very bright shiny bore. Badge is tarnished but retains most all of its black enamel in the lettering. 4-54438 JR105 (4,000-6,000)
