SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1842 MUSKET WITH BAYONET. Cal. 69. NSN. 42” rnd bbl. Dated 1853 on lock and bbl tang. “JS” cartouche on left side of stock. An 18” Model 1840 bayonet. Scabbard has a buff leather frog. Several numbers are stamped on scabbard. Tip is inside the leather. CONDITION: Very fine. Bright metal and only slight signs of cleaning. Wood has sharp edges and little sign of use. Bayonet has been cleaned and has scattered light surface rust and pitting. Scabbard is still solid, but has been resewn at tip.
