*RARE VERY EARLY JAPANESE GRANDPAPA NAMBU SEMI-AUTO PISTOL. SN 7. Cal. 8 mm Nambu. Blue finish with 4-3/4″ tapered rnd bbl, pedestal mounted dovetailed barleycorn front sight and 500 meter tangent rear sight. Chamber area of the frame is marked with the four interconnecting circles of the Koishikawa Arsenal of Tokyo. Mounted with full checkered 2-pc walnut grips and the back strap is slotted for stock attachment. Magazine bottom is of rosewood with checkered finger pads. Front strap is fitted with a grip safety and it has a fixed lanyard loop at rear of frame. Accompanied by one matching numbered magazine. The Grandpapa Nambu is the first in the long line of Japanese pistols patented in 1902 with about 2,400 produced between 1903 and 1906. Such early examples as this one are rarely encountered and even then are usually not found with strong orig finish. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Overall retains about 95% strong orig arsenal blue with light high point wear. Trigger retains about 60% thin straw color and sight slide about 70% fire blue. Matching numbered nickeled magazine is extremely fine with crisp checkering on base plug. Grips have a couple of small chips on left side and a few chipped & mashed diamonds overall and remains sound with some minor oil staining.
