*WINCHESTER MODEL 42 CUSTOM ENGRAVED & GOLD INLAID SHOTGUN. Cal. 410. Extremely fine and wonderfully gold inlaid Model 42 with 28” solid rib skeet choked barrel. The wood is very highly figured with custom checkered large forearm and pistol grip stock with Winchester hard rubber buttplate. The receiver is spectacularly engraved and signed “M. Courant Eng.” The left side has raised gold figures in 3-color gold of a cowboy on a galloping horse that appears to be Buffalo Bill chasing an Indian holding a rifle on a paint horse, with another Indian on a horse in the background with platinum reins and platinum rifle barrel with rose gold shirt. The foreground has a rabbit-ear cactus in bloom and what appears to be two bristle cone pines. Plus, it has three eagles soaring overhead. It has very fine line border gold wire and extremely fine gold wire in the pattern of mesas and buttes. The right side has raised gold inlays of a cowboy on a horse with 2-color gold, platinum reins, a platinum revolver, and rose gold neckerchief. He is chasing two steers with platinum faces and platinum spots, one with a rose gold tongue. It also has fine gold wire border inlays with a rattlesnake and small brush in the foreground and extremely fine gold inlay in the pattern of mountains in the background. The top rear of the receiver has a raised gold inlay of a cowboy on a horse carrying a rifle with platinum barrel, all wrapped with a muffler and has wooly chaps. The top of the receiver on both edges around the front of the receiver and up over the chamber area is beautifully engraved with very fine foliate arabesque patterns. The serial number on the receiver is inlaid in gold and the trigger bow has gold wire inlay. The take down ring has fine gold wire inlay and the word “WINCHESTER” is inlaid in gold on the bbl. The muzzle has a fine gold band and fine gold wire inlay down each side. All of the gold figures are rendered in superb detail and authenticity. Ser. 79121. CONDITION: Extremely fine, retaining virtually all its superb custom finish to both metal and wood. Bright shiny bore. This engraving is reminiscent of and is of the same quality as work done by Angelo Bee or Gino Cargnell. 4-47889 JR745 (4,000-6,000)
