*A. F. STOEGER AMERICAN EAGLE LUGER. SN 8735. Cal. 30 Luger. 3-5/8″ Barrel is marked with crowned N proof and “514” with “V” suffix. Receiver has American Eagle on ring. Right side is stamped “Germany” and “A. F. Stoeger Inc” and “New York”. Left side has crowned N proof. There are no numbers or marks on or near receiver lug. Frame with stock lug is marked “Safe” under safety lever. Front is stamped with SN and “Germany”. There is an unrecorded proof of an “N” in a circle, in front well. Rib on right side is stamped “Luger – Registered U. S. Patent Office.” Takedown lever is stamped with no. “14”. Trigger is stamped with no. “35” which is also on hold-open. Sideplate is stamped with “14” on bottom. No. “14” is on back of rear toggle. “DWM” logo is on unnumbered central toggle, Unnumbered breech block has crowned N proof. Extractor is stamped “Loaded”. Streaked, dark, dense walnut grips are retained by fire blued screws. Magazine has walnut base plug stamped “Germany”. CONDITION: Nearly as new, appears unfired. There are a couple of marks above takedown lever on frame where lever was pried open. There are also some marks on the top of the lever. Sideplate has slight silvering on sharp edges. Right side of frame shows slight silvering on rail. Grips are clean and sharp. Grip screws show virtually all of their fire blue. Strawed parts are an original deep golden color, as is only found on these specially produced Lugers. On heat blued pins the fire blue is especially lustrous. This special finish was mentioned in Stoeger’s advertising, that stated that “even a novice could instantly perceive the difference between them” (these Lugers and any other), because of their fine finish. Bore is excellent, bright and shiny, appears unfired. Magazine is excellent. An exceptionally fine piece, just as it left Stoeger’s in the 1930’s. 4-39192 MGM78 (4,250-5,250)
