UNSIGNED (19th Century) AMERICAN SCHOONER LEADING THE BRITISH SHIP M.R. CHAPMAN. Large oil on canvas nautical scene shows a two-mast schooner flying American flag leading a larger three-mast black hulled ship in full sail. It flies the British flag and a Company flag “TL Co”. Name of the ship is at the stern and both ships are on a dark wavy ocean with land at left side. Ships sail left to right under a fabulous expansive sunset sky ranging from light blue to rose color. Housed in a fine replacement Guido Frame Studio frame. SIZE: 22” x 36”. CONDITION: Relined, inpainting. Very good. 9-74572 LG (10,000-15,000)
