WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 SEMI-DELUXE LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-75. SN 1522. Second Model ’76 with 28” oct bbl, full magazine, Lyman front sight, semi-buckhorn rear sight & Lyman loop tang sight. It has sgl set trigger and is mounted with uncheckered, straight grain, American walnut with capped pistol grip stock and crescent buttplate with trap. Receiver has the second model, screwed-on, dust cover rail with impressed thumb print dust cover. The bbl is a much later replacement with later style markings & factory “WP” proofs on the top flat and top of receiver ring. Left side of lower tang has a large “02” assembly number, along with two other sets of numbers. The “02” also appears in top tang channel of buttstock. Left side of upper tang, under the wood, is stamped “J.P.P.” Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum yellow sheet identifying this rifle as having been shipped 5-8-1878 with two returns & repairs in 1909, apparently when it was re-barreled. There is no mention of the pistol grip stock. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains 92-93% strong orig blue, thinned over chamber area with scattered spots of light surface rust. Magazine tube retains most of its strong orig blue. Receiver retains about 85% glossy orig blue with some pitting on both sides. Lever retains 15-20% faded case colors with some scattered, moderate pitting and the hammer about 75% faded case colors. Wood is sound with moderate nicks & dings with the stock having a couple of repaired slivers by the top tang. Forearm is dark hand worn patina with traces of orig finish, while buttstock & buttplate retain most of an old refinish with moderate pitting on buttplate. Top tang has two extra holes that have been welded up. Mechanics are fine, strong bore with moderate pitting. 4-30655 (8,000-9,000)
