*DWM MODEL 1902 LUGER CARBINE WITH MATCHING STOCK AND CASE. SN 23708. Cal. .30 Luger. 11-3/4″ Unproofed round barrel with integral matted front sight base and actuator lug, is fitted with three position rear sight with locking detents for 100, 200, and 300 yards. Front bead is dovetailed through integral base. SN is on bottom of bbl. Old style receiver has last two digits of SN on lug. “Flaming bomb” proof is at left side of lug. Frame with grip safety has forend hanger mounted at front with SN on bottom of hanger. Triangle in circle proof (often found on Portuguese contract Lugers) is in well. Takedown lever and trigger are marked with last digits of SN, as is sideplate. DWM marked dished knob toggle with lock has SN on rear section and breech block. Checkered forend with sling loop has schnable tip and fastens to hanger with side nail through oval German silver escutcheons. No. “3” and last two digits of SN are stamped in hanger well. Unmarked nickel-plated magazine has walnut base plug. Streaked and lightly figured buttstock has steel attaching iron with toggle on left side to secure it to carbine. Last two digits of SN are on top of iron. Stock is checkered at about 20 LPI in point pattern with single line and broad flat mullered borders. Stock features sling loop and ribbed composition buttplate. New made wooden case is partially lined in red cloth, and contains spare wood bottom magazine, unmarked takedown tool, original cleaning rod, and oiler, takedown pin, and box of Remington 30 Luger cartridges. With the carbine is a reproduction leather sling. PROVENANCE: Invoice from Ralph Shattuck, and anonymous letter describing carbine. CONDITION: Very fine. Blued parts retain nearly all of their original blue, silvering slightly on high points. There are a few areas where blue has been added. Safety lever, takedown lever, and magazine release have had their straw restored. Trigger retains 80% original straw. Grips show slight wear. Forend has been lightly refinished, and has a repaired crack at bottom through checkering, pinned with two steel pins. Stock has a light oil refinish, and checkering has been re-cut. Bore is excellent, bright and shiny. New case is excellent, as are accessories. Box of cartridges shows discoloration, and lots of nicks and chips on label and box. 4-39239 MGM73 (12,500-17,500)
