DELUXE SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-75. SN 13581. Fine second model ’76 with screwed-on dust cover rail and impressed thumbprint dust cover with 28” oct bbl, button magazine, slightly altered half nickel front sight and “1876” dated rifle ladder rear sight. Mounted with very nicely figured 1-2X American walnut with early style checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with fleur-de-lis horn insert serpentine grip and crescent buttplate with trap. Left side of lower tang, under the wood, is stamped with the assembly number “1165” and “X”. Assembly number is found inside top tang channel of buttstock and inside toe of buttplate. Assembly number is also faintly penciled inside the forearm. Bottom right flat, under forearm, has some heavy pitting and the bbl may be an old restored finish. CONDITION: Very fine plus, bbl as noted. Bbl retains 85-87% strong, factory blue with sharp edge wear, muzzle edge wear and some thinning over chamber area. Receiver, lever, hammer & buttplate retain most of their factory case colors, slightly faded on receiver and face of buttplate, brilliant in sheltered areas. Wood is sound with a couple of small dings in forearm and retains a cleaned, steel wooled finish. The grip insert has a small chip. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore with a few small scattered spots. This may be a factory restoration. 4-30786 JR531 (25,000-40,000)
