IVAN FEDOROVICH CHOULTSE (Russian, 1877-1932) SUNLIT MOUNTAIN SNOW. Oil on canvas Housed in a French style silver gilt frame with minor losses Signed lower right “IW.F. Choultse” Choultse was born in Petrograd, Russia, and as testament to his talent became court painter to Czar Nicholas II. After the Russian Revolution the artist moved to Paris, where he continued to paint Russian landscapes, but added to this repertoire the snowcapped mountains and scenery of Switzerland. Best known for these beautifully delineated scenes, Choultse became a master at capturing the subtle nuances of light on snow. SIZE: 21-1/2″ x 25-3/4″. Overall: 29″ x 33″. PROVENANCE: From a fine, Augusta, Maine estate. CONDITION: Craquelure, one small area of touch-up in center sky, very good. 9-29220 (40,000-60,000)
