MONUMENTAL R.J. HORNER CARVED MAHOGANY PARLOR SUITE. Last quarter 19th century. Comprised of two armchairs and a settee, each curved back rail surmounted by pierce-carved foliate, plume, and acorn cresting. The scrolling molded arms with volute grips above fully-carved chimera supports, centering the curved upholstered back and overupholstered seat with bowed front, the acanthus-carved square-shaped legs terminating in massive claw feet. SIZE: Chair: 43″ h. x 32″ overall w. x 22″ w. of seat. Settee: 42″ h. x 64″ overall l. x 54-1/2″ w. of seat. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection. CONDITION: Professionally refinished and restored, the frames newly re-upholstered with a polychrome floral fabric. Vibrant medium brown finish. Restoration on plumed crest of one armchair.
