L. E. VARNI (American, 19th Century) “PINES IN THE DE_____ AT BOWDOIN COLLEGE. Oil on canvas scene shows a dirt path leading through tall pine trees and grassy area under blue and white cloud sky. Signed lower right, “VARNI”. Housed in its original gilt wood frame. The stretcher retaining an original Portland society of Art label with artist and title. There is pencil writing in reverse of canvas with date of “1890”. SIZE: 22″h x 18″w. CONDITION: Paint chips to left side and tree trunk, craquelure. Some in painting, otherwise good. 9-96352 (400-600)
