Similar pistols issued to General Officers or sold to other military officers by the government are not an uncommon occurrence and are encountered fairly regularly. However blue finish caliber 32 pistols are quite scarce and those sold to the OSS are extremely scarce. Most of the OSS pistols were issued to operatives & agents conducting behind the lines reconnaissance, sabotage and other dangerous missions in enemy territory during WWII. The Office of Strategic Services, under the auspices of Col. Wild Bill Donovan became a force to be reckoned with in creating mayhem and gathering intelligence behind enemy lines. Subsequent to WWII the OSS was converted from a military to civilian organization that today is known as the Central Intelligence Agency. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Overall retains about 95% strong orig factory blue with some thinning on the slide, muzzle & sharp edge wear and a worn spot on right rear of slide. Front strap is a little thin and turning plum, otherwise frame retains strong bright blue. Right grip has several mashed diamonds otherwise grips are sound showing light wear. Some unknowing person, in attempting to disassemble the pistol, used pliers on the front bbl boss but created little damage. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-40943 JR246 (2,750-3,750)
