SIGNED (19th Century) AN AMERICAN FRIGATE. Oil on canvas harbor scene depicts a three-mast steam powered frigate in a tranquil harbor with several other sailboats. A large stone lighthouse is seen in central harbor looking across to a hillside with many large buildings. The foreground has a flower covered shoreline with water and figure with long pole. Signed lower right indistinctly. Housed in a fine modern replacement gesso decorated gilt frame. PROVENANCE: From a Downeast, Maine Collection. SIZE: 22” x 36-1/4”. CONDITION: Two small patches to reverse with corresponding inpainting. 9-70447 (500-1,000)
