*RARE COLT MODEL 1900 SIGHT SAFETY SEMI-AUTO PISTOL. SN 2081. Cal. 38 ACP. Blue finish with 6″ bbl, thin half moon front sight and rear sight in the hammer block safety. Slide has forward serrations with Browning’s Patent and Colt address markings on left side with rampant Colt in a circle at left rear end. Right side of slide has usual markings “AUTOMATIC COLT / CALIBRE 38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS”. Mounted with smooth walnut grip panels with bright fire blued screws through German silver escutcheons. Accompanied by one nickeled magazine with patent marked base. Finish on this pistol is high luster Colt charcoal blue with color case hardened straight spur hammer & sight safety in the top rear of the slide. Trigger, screws & pins are all bright fire blued. According to Flayderman’s Guide to Antique American Firearms only about 3,500 of these fine pistols were produced in the period 1900-1903. This is Colt’s first attempt with a semi-auto pistol which was met with instant acceptance by the buying public with about 250 pistols were purchased by the Army & Navy. They usually saw hard service with limited maintenance and are rarely found with high orig finish. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Overall retains 95-96% glossy, bright, orig factory blue with some dulling on the sides of the slide and a few light chemical spots on left side of front sight. Bottom forward part of frame, right toe of grip & about 30% of the back strap are the major losses from flaking, not wear. The loss areas are a medium patina. Hammer & sight safety retain most of their orig factory case colors, strong & bright on rear edge of hammer & sides of sight. Magazine retains about all of its bright orig nickel with some halos around the holes in the sides. Grips are sound with a few very minor scratches and overall retain most of their orig factory varnish with some light soil on bottom edges. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. This is very likely a once in a lifetime opportunity to own one of the finest Model 1900 Colts available. 4-40942 JR245 (11,000-15,000)
