*SPRINGFIELD M1 GARAND. Cal. 7.62 mm. SN 3717417. 24” bbl dated “2-SA-4 44” with “7.62 NATO” stamped underneath. This is a wonderful example of a WWII gun that was updated for Navy use in some point in time after WWII. Rifle is accompanied by several documents showing to go from the Naval Weapons Support Center in Crane, Indiana to Willingboro Twp. Police Dept. in New Jersey. Paperwork dated August 2, 1976. This is one of four rifles received by that Police Dept., all of which were Navy 7.62 conversions. Other documents included are a statement from the Police Dept. showing that rifles were traded to Riverside Shooter’s Supply in Riverside, New Jersey for other department equipment in April 1980. The third document is from M1 Garand Research in Texas City, Texas stating authenticity of this particular firearm. CONDITION: This rifle is an outstanding example of a 1944 Garand that went into arsenal for modification. Rifle presents as nearly new. Receiver shows 98-99% orig green Parkerizing with orig WWII Type 3 locking bar sight. Op-rod is “-3 modified”. Gas cylinder & sight assembly appear to be orig to gun & retain 98% of orig finish. Trigger housing assembly is in 1944 vintage with “-14” but has been refinished to new. Buttstock is orig to gun with “SA” over “NFR” inspection along with crossed cannons. Both stock & hand guards are in outstanding condition with just the minutest of handling marks to stock. Rifle is also equipped with a post-WWII sling & oiler in buttstock.
