*WINCHESTER MODEL 70 BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 7 mm Mauser. SN 201295. Standard grade pre-64 rifle with 26″ tapered sporter weight stainless steel bbl that is unmarked except for the hand stamped “7 mm” and the “WP” proof mark. It is mounted in a late standard grade featherweight stock with Monte Carlo comb, checkered black composition buttplate, with sling swivels. Two red & white plastic discs, one of which identifies the rifle and the other states “WINCHESTER EMPLOYEE EXPERIMENTAL”, accompany it. There is also a laminated slip of paper that states “Model 70 Experimental Stainless Steel Bbl 7X57 mm. Made up by an employee at Winchester.” These tags were used in the Peter & Patty Murray Collection and the information in the laminated tag was apparently supplied by them. CONDITION: Bbl is nicely polished in the white and retains most of this finish. Receiver retains 95-97% orig finish while the floorplate & trigger guard retain virtually all of their orig factory finish. Wood is sound and retains virtually all of its fine orig factory finish with two or three minor tiny nicks. Checkering is crisp. Fine mechanics, bright shiny bore. 4-53777 JR64 (2,500-4,000)
