There had been about 1,000 of these Model 720s sold to the Navy in early 1942 but were apparently never issued. After the war, they were destined for destruction but saved by Marine Major Cam Hayden who convinced the Secretary of the Navy to keep the guns and issue them as Naval shooting trophies. The gun is accompanied by a photocopy of a story from “American Rifleman”, May 2001, detailing the Model 720 history. PROVENANCE: Alan Brown Coll. CONDITION: Extremely fine as gun appears test-fired only. There is a little thinning of the blue on the band of front ramp and side of bolt release on front action. Stock retains virtually all of its orig finish with a couple minor nicks and storage bruises. Top of comb at buttplate has a small chip that has started to lift. Checkering is crisp and sharp. Mechanics are crisp with a bright, new bore. 4-39333 BDT83 (3,000-5,000)
