*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY “GAS TRAP” M1 RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. SN 8425. 22-3/8” bbl. This is a 1938 era gas trap M1 assembled from mostly orig gas trap parts ranging from 1938-40. All parts appear to be orig with exception of front sight, front sight screw, flush nut & possibly main operating spring (very difficult to distinguish orig from reproductions). CONDITION: Receiver & op-rod are re-parkerized. Bbl appears to be an orig finish with a very good bore. It is the correct gas cyl numbered “D28289” with lightning cuts as correct for this gun. Rear sight assembly is correct orig finish for gun with exception of the noted flush nut. All internal parts are gas trap & appear to be orig finish. Bolt is also correct for this receiver but finish is thin. Hand guards are of later type gas trap with no drawing board numbers & no relief cut for op-rod, but have dings & dents as would be expected for orig parts to this rifle. Stock assembly is correct gas trap cartouched “SA” over “SPG” with two equal holes in butt. Stock has been modified for butt trap assembly but does have a solid buttplate on it. Buttstock is in exceptional condition with only light dings & handling marks present. Cartouche is very legible. Buttplate is later type unnumbered. Trigger housing is large pad type correct for gun with concentric rings on trigger guard. Trigger housing has approx. 80% orig finish with all correct internals. 4-57848 BK33 (18,000-22,000)
