MARTIALLY MARKED HENRY MODEL 1860 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 RF Henry. SN 3321. Standard martial Henry with 24-1/4” oct bbl with integral magazine tube, German silver front sight and 900 yard Henry ladder rear sight. Right side of bbl has the “C.G.C” and “H” inspector marks with the “HH” inspector marks on the receiver. Mounted with a nicely figured, field replacement buttstock. Left side of lower tang & inside toe of buttplate also have serial number. The number was not observed in top tang channel of buttstock. Inside toe of buttplate has a curious brazed area, apparently to fill a small gap when the stock was replaced. Henry rifles in this serial number series were primarily issued to the 3rd Veterans Volunteers organized toward the end of the Civil War and primarily used in the defense of Washington. At the expiration of term of service the volunteer was allowed to retain his Henry rifle, revolver & equipment as an incentive for the reenlistment. There are some records of the Henry rifles that were issued, available through the Springfield Research Service, a private organization. CONDITION: Very good. No orig finish remains, being a cleaned, silver/gray patina with some fine pitting on the bbl. Lever & hammer also have the same patina. Receiver was cleaned & polished a long time ago with some light hammer marks on left sideplate and a few light dings elsewhere. Stock is sound & clean with minor nicks & scratches, fits very well and retains most of its varnish finish. Mechanics are fine, strong bore with light to moderate pitting. 4-30596 (27,500-37,500)
