*JOHNSON MODEL 1941 SEMI-AUTO MILITARY RIFLE WITH BAYONET. SN 7062. Cal. 30-06. Fine Johnson rifle with 22″ tapered rnd bbl, tall front sight with ears and bayonet lug collar near muzzle. Top of receiver is marked with all the usual model 1941 nomenclature. It also has its orig long rear sight with captive elevator marked “M2” on left side and graduated to 1000 meters on right side. Mounted in a2-pc American walnut stock with checkered steel buttplate and perforated integral steel handguard. It has factory sling swivels containing a military style leather sling with steel hooks. Johnson rifles were a late entry into the semi-automatic military rifle field and were not favorably received by the Army during test trials. However the Marine Corps did purchase a few for their paratroopers. Other contracts were to the Dutch military, all in 30-06, and to some South American governments in 7 mm Mauser. Accompanied by orig Johnson bayonet #893 on bbl ring with orig brown leather sheath. PROVENANCE: Alan Brown Coll. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains most of its dull orig blue with the receiver and integral handguard retaining about all of its black oxide finish, with blued top tang and matte finish magazine box. Wood is sound and retains about all of a restored finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. Bayonet and sheath are extremely fine. Sling is extremely fine. 4-39343 JR316 (2,000-3,000)
