*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY CALIBER 22 M2 RIFLE. Cal. 22 LR. SN 4943. 24” bbl dated “10-38”. This rifle accompanied by documents from Springfield Research Service was shipped from Springfield Armory to Western Cartridge Co. in East Alton, Illinois on June 23, 1936 as one of only twelve manufactured “STAR GAUGED” M2 Springfields. At some point in time this rifle was re-barreled with a “SA 10-38” bbl. Rifle was equipped with a Lyman 48 receiver sight. Receiver is not tapped for scope but bbl is, being that later bbls were manufactured for scope use. No magazine is present. CONDITION: Rifle retains 97-98% of its orig Parkerizing throughout with the most minute bit of wear showing on receiver. Lyman 48 sight has 98% of its orig finish with virtually no signs of wear whatsoever. Bolt assembly has only slightest bit of rub marks & face of bolt is clean. Stock assembly has no cartouche but does have a small letter “A” stamped in it approx. 2” behind pistol grip & 3/4” below top. There is a small circular dent approx. 1” in front of buttplate on left hand side. There are also numerous very small dents along bottom of stock around floorplate & magazine well assembly, as well as two small nicks approx. 1/2” each just behind rear sling swivel. Buttstock does have “M2” stamped in bottom of pistol grip. Buttplate shows 99% blue finish. Bore is as new. 4-57811 BK58 (1,200-2,500)
