10¢ MILLS / PACE CONVERSION FRONT SLOT MACHINE. A beautifully restored Mills “Silent Salesman” slot machine that was converted after several years of use to a jackpot front. At the initiation of the 3-reel slot machine there were no “jackpots”, but as time progressed and players wanted more and more, a visible jackpot showing a bountiful amount of coins was displayed on the front castings of slot machines to entice potential players. This particular machine from the early 1920s was most likely converted by Pace in the mid to late 1920s by eliminating the original plain front casting and replacing it with a “fancy front twin jackpot” casting. Most of these machines from the 1920s were either 5¢ or 25¢, and it is unusual to find a 10¢ play. Machine comes with a finely crafted oak stand with polished aluminum legs and owl adorning front door. SIZE: 16″ w x 16″ d x 23″ h. CONDITION: Overall excellent restored condition. 1-8701 JL (1,000-1,500)
