PAUL DELVAUX (Belgian, 1897-1994) NUDES IN CLASSICAL RUINS. Oil on canvas scene shows eight nude women seen amongst classical white marble ruins. There is a variety of Oriental rugs on the marble tile floor, three of the ladies have colorful robes. All seen under a blue and cloud sky with mountain background and large tree. Signed bottom center right “P Delvaux 10-48”. Housed in a replacement modern carved gilt wood frame that is signed “Larson-Juhl”. REFERENCE: A similar scene Sotheby’s London, lot 76 Feb. 3, 2004 which was dated 1944. We are unsure if this is a post dated study or whether this is a later copy. SIZE: 25” x 30”. CONDITION: There are two canvas patches to reverse. It appears that the painting has had extensive restoration with inpainting. 9-29421 (4000-6000)
