*FINE ORIGINAL DOCUMENTED SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903 NATIONAL MATCH RIFLE. SN 1266503. Cal. 30-06. Beautiful National Match Springfield in standard configuration with 24″ bbl marked “SA / 4-25” below front sight with a flaming bomb in middle. Bottom of muzzle crown is stamped with the star gauge star and top of bbl, under handguard, is stamped with the star gauge number “D2326”. Receiver has standard Springfield markings with bolt body and rails polished bright and the last five digits of SN in electric pencil on bolt body. The “ON” side of the cutoff is also polished bright. Mounted in a nicely figured, uncheckered 1-pc walnut stock with full length handguard. Forestock has grasping grooves and there is a crisp, clear “D.A.L.” cartouche in a rectangle on left side of wrist. Buttplate is checkered with a trap containing a nickeled brass tube with cleaning gear and oiler. Forestock and handguard are secured with a standard split front band/bayonet lug that has a stacking swivel and a grooved lower band with sling loop and a corresponding sling loop in buttstock. Trigger guard and floorplate are standard issue machined steel. This rifle is identified by SN as a National Match on p. 210 of The Springfield 1903 Rifles, Brophy, which also lists the bbl date and star gauge number. This rifle is also pictured on p. 448 of the referenced publication and is identifiable by SN. Accompanied by a set of P.J. O’Hare metal sight covers. PROVENANCE: Bob Rosenthal Collection. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Overall retains about 98-99% strong orig armory finish to both metal & wood. Crown of muzzle is slightly pitted.
