RARE STAFFORDSHIRE SALT GLAZE FIGURAL TEAPOT. Mid-18th century. This fine example depicting a recumbent camel, its head the spout, fitted with an ornately decorated “howdah”, the conforming lid with a bust finial, the teapot handle a serpent. Reference: nearly identical example now in Chazen Museum of Art, Madison, Wisconsin, a gift from Charles W. Vaughn. SIZE: 8″ h x 9-1/2″ l. PROVENANCE: From the private collection of Dorothy-Lee Jones. CONDITION: Lid with old repairs. Top rim with chips emitting hairline cracks. Spout with loss to lower jaw. Chip at end of tail on handle. Some discoloration in glaze. Overall good. 9-23336 (400-600)
