THREE ENGLISH SALTGLAZED TEAPOTS. Mid 18th century. 1) The first a squat, bulbous example with molded gilt-decorated cartouches, the conforming lid similarly decorated with a bird knop. Raised on small paw feet. 2) The second bulbous teapot with incised arch decoration as a midband. The lid with a recumbent dog finial. Raised on in-curved legs with paw feet surmounted by shells. 3) The third example polychrome decorated overall with a man reaching for a butterfly opposing a figure with wide-brimmed hat amidst flowering trees. The conforming lid similarly decorated and with acorn knop. SIZE: 5-1/2″ h (all three). PROVENANCE: From the private collection of Dorothy-Lee Jones. CONDITION: 1) Lid with tight hairline, spout with slight roughness and tip of proper left wing of bird finial with chip, otherwise good. 2) Head of dog restored. Tight vertical hairline to rim of pot with overall restoration. 3) With restoration to lid and possibly rim of teapot. 9-23334 (600-900)
